Bacteria
Most bacteria have a rigid cell walls that gives them their shape.Bacilli are rod shaped. Cocci are spherical. Spirilla are long and spiral shaped. Some bacteria have hairlike parts called flagella that help them move. Bacteria are prokaryotes they have no nucleus and cells that have a nucleus are eukaryotes. Prokaryotes reproduce asexually by a process called binary fission. Binary fission is when one single-celled organism splits into two single-celled organisms. They just simply clone nothing is different between the two. Binary fission is one of many processes of asexual reproduction. Bacteria are classified in part by the way they get food. Consumers get their food by eating other organisms. Many bacteria are decomposers, which feed on dead organisms. Bacteria that make thier own food are called producers. These bacteria use energy from the sun and are usually green.
Cyanobacteria are producers. Cyanobacteria often live in water. They also contain the green pigment chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is important to photosynthesis. Many cyanobacteria have other pigments and they aren't all green pigments.
Nitrogen makes up most of the air, and plants can not directly use nitrogen. nitrogen-fixing bacteria take it and change it into a form the plants can use. This is called nitrogen fixation.Antibiotics are medicines used to kill bacteria yet bacteria are made up by antibiotics. Humans can't live without bacteria but it also harms people too. Pathogenic bacteria are bacteria that cause disease. We are protected from many bacterial diseases by vaccination.
Viruses
A virus cannot function on its own. A virus can only reproduce with a host. A host is a living thing that a virus or parasite lives in or on. Viruses can be classified by shape, the type of disease they cause, their life cycle, or the kind of genetic material they have. The four main shapes of viruses are crystals, cylinders, spheres, and spacecrafts. Some viruses are dormant this means that they are in you forever, they sleep and then came become active like HIV. There are two different cycles of a virus: Lytic or Lysogenic. Lytic is when the virus gets into the cell and stay inside and destroys it after it's finished. Lysogenic is when the virus is sleeping and it can change into the lytic cycle.
